KARACHI: All Pakistan Goods Transport Association has announced countrywide strike against the new Axle Load Control Regime.
The goods transporters also suspended all activities including carriage of goods. According to a notification, goods transporters union halted all activities affecting both national and international goods transfer throughout the country.
The union is determined to carry on the strike indefinitely unless the axle load law is removed or desired amendments are made.
Although the demand is unfair, the goods transport union plays a vital role in the financial and industrial sectors of Pakistan which may cause outrage and shortfall in the export market and ports as well.
Earlier on 2nd January, transporters in Lahore also announced that they would hold a nationwide strike due to tariffs, toll taxes, and other increased fines in the country.
The strike has been launched over a massive increase in fines on highways and motorways by the federal cabinet last year in November.
