In a significant setback for the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), two of its ticket holders from NA-50 Attock-II announced their decision to join the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Wednesday, as reported by national media.
According to a report by ARY News on Thursday, the leaders, Malik Amanat (PP-4) and Syed Atif Shah (PP-5), formally joined the PPP after meeting its chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The move weakens TLP’s position in two key provincial constituencies.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari welcomed the new members, alongside Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Hayat Khan, who was also present. This development follows recent political tensions between PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Last month, Bilawal Bhutto declined a meeting request from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, citing voter concerns and grievances over PML-N’s handling of administrative matters in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Despite an agreement to work collaboratively, PPP has accused PML-N of sidelining it in provincial governance.
Bilawal emphasized that his decision to reject the meeting wasn’t personal but rooted in broader political issues affecting the PPP’s influence in Punjab and KP.
