KARACHI: Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani has announced the closure of schools till class eight for fifteen days as coronavirus infections continue to increase across the province.
Taking to Twitter, Saeed Ghani said, “Sindh Education Department has decided to suspend physical classes till class eight in all public and private schools across the province from April 6 for the next fifteen days.”
“However, the schools would be able to continue delivering online classes, or keep the students engaged through homework and other means,” the provincial minister tweeted. Earlier on Saturday, Saeed Ghani chaired a meeting of a steering committee of the Sindh Education Department to decide the fate of schools.

Relevant sources have informed that two proposals regarding closure of schools in the province came up during the meeting. Sources said that some members of the steering committee suggested closing schools till class eight.
Another proposal was to close schools for 15 days. Some members, however, opposed the closure of all schools. During the meeting, a representative of private schools reportedly raised an objection as to why schools should be closed when markets are open.
The third wave of coronavirus continues to wreak havoc as Pakistan recorded over 5,000 new coronavirus cases in the past day. According to the NCOC, Pakistan recorded 5,020 new coronavirus cases across the country while 81people succumbed to the deadly disease.
