Jemima Goldsmith, the former wife of Prime Minister Imran Khan, has shown disappointment in his latest comments on rape in which he has blamed women’s dress for a rise in rape cases in Pakistan.
PM Khan’s remarks sparked an outcry during a question and answer session with the public earlier this week. It happened when a caller asked what the government is doing about rising sexual violence particularly against children, to which, PM Khan surprisingly advised women to cover up to prevent temptation.
PM Khan added, “In any society where vulgarity is prevalent, there are consequences.” However, many celebrities especially female artist disagreed with his comments, but moreover, Goldsmith who is also a British screenwriter, television, film, and documentary producer decided to counter the prime minister by citing verses from the Holy Quran to school him.
She responded to her former husband by sharing a verse from chapter 24 of the Holy Quran, “Say to the believing men that they restrain their eyes and guard their private parts.” Quran 24:31. The onus is on men.”

In another tweet she hoped that the prime minister had been misquoted, “I’m hoping this is a misquote/ mistranslation. The Imran I knew used to say, “Put a veil on the man’s eyes, not on the woman.”
Reading the recent situation carefully, Goldsmith posted another tweet in which she shared that she remembers years ago being in Saudi Arabia, she saw an elderly woman in a veil, who was lamenting the fact that when she went out she was followed and harassed by young men. “The only way to get rid of them was to take her face covering off. The problem is not how women dress,” she tweeted.
