LAHORE: Punjab Forensic Science Agency has stated that the fire erupted that caused the Tezgam incident occurred due to the gas leakage.
The two-page report that was published by the Punjab Forensic Science Agency Lahore stated that there was no evidence of petrol or kerosene found from the wreckage of the train bogies.
The report claimed the leakage of gas in one of the train’s bogies. Moreover, a matchstick or smoking a cigarette in the gas leakage cabin could be the reason for triggering the incident.
The Tezgam incident took place in October last year, which claimed at least 73 people’s lives. The incident injured several people. A fire broke out in three bogies of Tezgam Express at Liaquatpur in Rahim Yar Khan.
The train was traveling to Rawalpindi from Karachi when it caught fire due to an explosion in one of the gas cylinders. The fire engulfed three train carriages in no time. One business class bogie and two economy class bogies were completely destroyed due to high fire.
The government announced to give Rs. 1.5 million to the families of deceased of the incident whereas Rs. 0.5 million were announced for the injured ones as compensation money.
Moreover, the Islamabad High Court in this regard, will hear the case of the Tezgam train fire incident on 24th February.
