NEW ZEALAND: Ross Taylor on Monday acquired position to become New Zealand’s highest run-scorer on the fourth day at the SCG overtaking Stephen Fleming’s tally of 7172.
Taylor started the second innings needing 21 runs and abruptly after tea lofted Nathan Lyon down the ground for three, the landmark greeted by standing applause when it was declared to the crowd at the end of the over with the Australia players also acknowledging the accomplishment.
The 35-year-old, Taylor, playing in his 99th Test, overhauled the tally of 7,172 Stephen Fleming managed in 111 matches between 1994 and 2008.
Any joy the former New Zealand captain felt at passing the landmark was short-lived as he was bowled for 22 by paceman Pat Cummins five balls later.
