Before the arrival of Ramadan, the stockpiling mafia is active across the country, and sugar prices have increased. In various cities of the country, the price of sugar has risen by approximately 15 rupees per kilogram.
Officials say that the continuous increase in sugar prices is concerning. It is essential to reduce the rising prices before Ramadan, while currently, the maximum price of sugar in various cities is around 160 rupees per kilogram.
According to official statistics, the average price of sugar in different cities is 154 rupees and 27 paisa per kilogram, while an increase of 15 rupees and 63 paisa per kilogram in sugar prices is being noted in the early days of 2025.
A document states that in the last two and a half months, the price of sugar has increased on average by 22 rupees and 42 paisa per kilogram. At the beginning of 2025, the average price of sugar across the country was 138 rupees and 64 paisa, while two and a half months ago, the average price of sugar was 131 rupees and 85 paisa per kilogram. However, one year ago, on February 15, 2024, the average price of sugar was 144 rupees and 48 paisa per kilogram.
The official document states that the Shahbaz Sharif government allowed the export of 750,000 tons of sugar from June to October 2024, and then in October 2024, permission was granted to export 500,000 metric tons of sugar. A record increase in sugar exports to Afghanistan was noted from July 2024 to January 2025.
