Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, announced on Monday that the licensing process for SpaceX’s Starlink internet service is nearing completion, with the satellite-based connectivity expected to be operational in Pakistan by November 2025.
Speaking during a briefing to the National Assembly Standing Committee on IT, the minister confirmed, “The licensing process for Starlink will be finalized shortly. Once the license is issued, we will begin infrastructure installation, and Starlink will be operational in Pakistan by November.”
Shaza Fatima also briefed the committee on internet spectrum progress and user experiences, highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s digital landscape. She noted the formation of a sub-committee to expedite the resolution of pending legal cases related to the spectrum.
“We are working tirelessly to ensure these issues are resolved effectively,” the minister said.
Among the recent achievements, she cited the clearance of over 550 MHz of spectrum through judicial processes in coordination with the Ministry of Law over the past year—a key milestone in improving nationwide connectivity.
According to a statement from the ministry, MNA Sharmila Faruqui lauded the ministry’s performance, praising the notable progress made within a short period.
The committee was also briefed on the ministry’s ongoing and future initiatives, reaffirming the government’s dedication to expanding digital infrastructure and ensuring accessible, high-speed internet for all Pakistanis.
Last month, the federal government approved Starlink’s temporary registration, allowing SpaceX to lay the groundwork for its operations in the country.
Confirming the development, Minister Shaza Fatima stated that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s digital vision to boost technological advancement and bridge the connectivity gap in remote areas.
“Under Prime Minister Shehbaz’s leadership, Pakistan is moving towards digital transformation,” she emphasized. “The introduction of satellite internet is a significant leap in our technological journey.”
