A celebratory victory parade for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) turned tragic on Wednesday as seven people, including women and children, lost their lives in a stampede. Several others sustained injuries during the chaos.
According to Indian media reports, the incident occurred near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where thousands of enthusiastic fans had gathered to celebrate RCB’s first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) title win.
The stampede broke out at the stadium gates, reportedly due to overcrowding as people attempted to catch a glimpse of the RCB players. Over ten individuals were injured and rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
The RCB squad, inspired by star batter Virat Kohli, recently defeated the Punjab Kings to secure their maiden IPL championship since the tournament’s inception in 2008—a long-awaited victory that sparked celebrations across the city.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and questions are being raised about crowd control and security arrangements at the venue.
