“Sindhu Ji Goonj” (meaning Indus Echoes), Pakistan’s first Sindhi-language film in nearly three decades, delves into the intricate relationship between humans and the Indus River through five interconnected stories.
The film is set to make its international premiere at the Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) on January 21.
Directed and produced by journalist-turned-filmmaker Rahul Aijaz, the movie portrays narratives unfolding on, across, and around the Indus River. It is a collaborative effort between Pakistan’s Film N’ Chips Media Productions, Shaam Films, and South Korea’s Big Meta Films.

The cast features Sindhi-speaking actors Vajdaan Shah, Ansaar Mahar, and Samina Seher in pivotal roles, with renowned actor Shamoon Abbasi serving as the film’s executive producer.
While JIFF begins on January 17, Sindhu Ji Goonj will be screened at the Rajasthan Adult Education Association in Jaipur on January 21.
Pakistan’s first Sindhi-language film, Umar Marvi, was released in 1956, with the last Sindhi film, Himmat, hitting cinemas in 1997. Since then, Sindhi-language cinema has been limited to a handful of telefilms and short films, making this feature a significant milestone in the revival of Sindhi storytelling on screen.
