The Sindh government is working on creating two special economic zones in Karachi to facilitate Chinese investors in collaboration with local traders for the establishment of various industries.
According to media, this was stated by Provincial Minister for Energy, Planning, and Development, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, during a speech at an event at the Expo Center.
The provincial minister stated that several industries are being set up in Karachi, the commercial hub of the country, primarily due to changes in global trade policies for China.
He added that Pakistani traders are keen to cooperate with Chinese traders to attract investment in various sectors and increase exports under the “Made in Pakistan” brand.
He noted that many countries intend to phase out direct imports from China, but Chinese products can still be imported indirectly through other countries, especially Pakistan, which is becoming a preferred destination for importers and exporters under emerging trade opportunities.
The provincial minister reiterated that the Sindh government is actively working with various industrial zones in Karachi to tailor their infrastructure to specific projects and requirements.
He further mentioned that these zones have been empowered with financial and administrative autonomy to ensure their sustainable development.
Nasir Hussain Shah also referred to the Sindh government’s “major success” in the energy sector, which will benefit the public and significantly aid industrialists. He said that the Sindh government has achieved a significant milestone in electricity production.
He added that the approval of a tariff of 3.5 cents per unit for the solar park project will provide affordable electricity to Karachi and other parts of Sindh in different stages.
