Sindh rulers defame police for political gains: Haleem Adil

KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Vice President and parliamentary party leader in Sindh assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh has said the rulers of Sindh are now defaming the police of the province.
Addressing a crowded press conference at the Insaf House flanked by the opposition leader in Sindh Assembly Firdous Shamim Naqvi and others, Adeel said for a couple of days we have been seeing that disinformation cell of the Sindh government is made very active.
He said a series of allegations are being leveled against Sindh police. He said it seems that only the police department is corrupt in Sindh, while all other departments are honest, pure and clean.
He reminded that just three days ago Sindh chief minister had claimed that Karachi is a safe city. He asked would the chief minister like to deny that the Sindh police had also played a crucial role in making Karachi a safe city. He asked was Murad Shah himself who was doing policing of the megacity.
Haleem Adil said in 2008 two tenures were given to Babar Khattak and Fayaz Laghari. He said from 2008 to 2013 gang war was patronized and promoted in Karachi, while the PPP was in government.
He said when target killings and ransom crimes were at their peak in Karachi, the rulers did not blame IGPs of Sindh. He said Ghulam Haider Jamali also became IGP Sindh and corruption marred the Sindh police, but he was not removed.
He said; however, A D Khuwaja was removed because he was an honest and competent officer. He said Kaleem Imam is the best police officer with exemplary performance but the rulers of Sindh want an IGP who works like their slave.
He said the vehicle of SSP of Umerkot had hit the vehicle of Justice Gulzar and it was a grave misconduct but no action was taken against the SSP Umerkot.
He said similarly the inquiry report of Javed Ahmed Baloch is pending, but the report against Ghulam Asghar Mahesar was promptly filed because he had taken a statement from Yousuf Thaily-Walla. He said that Daily-Walla had only told the truth.
Haleem Adil said that reports of misconduct against SSP Nisar Ahmed Channa, Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Dr Farooq Azam, Ghulam Sarwar Abro, Aitzaz Darayo, Aijaz Hashmi, Kamran Rashdi, Kashif Abbasi, Syed Ali Arif, and other police officers were filed, but the government of Sindh took no action against them.
He said, on the other hand, SSP Dr Rizwan and Ghulam Asghar Mahesar were removed because they dared to speak the truth. He said if the present IGP has been removed there would be no one to stop the lawlessness of the ruling quarters. He said they would defend the present IGP Sindh.
He said now a police officer is being removed who is about to retire in seven months. He suggested the Sindh government to dare to appoint honest and direful officers like A D Khuwaja or Aftab Pathan as IGP Sindh. He said no consultation of the provincial government is necessary with the federal government for posting of IGP.
Opposition leader Firdous Shamim Naqvi said MPA Imtiaz Sheikh is using his criminal wings against his political opponents. He said the gunman of Maqbool Sheikh, a brother of Imtiaz, was involved in stealing assets of a polio team. He said the black sheep of Imtiaz Sheikh in police ensured the failure of some crucial raids.
He said in some Katcha area, PPP leaders are harboring dacoits and criminal gangs for kidnapping for ransom. He said a criminal Sardar Tiago Khan Taigani is the henchman of Imtiaz Sheikh, whose people are involved in the martyrdom of inspector Rao Saifullah.
He said criminals are used for the protection of ministers in Sindh. He said there are several startling stories of these crime gangs backed by ruling politicians.
