Sindh police nab 219 people for violating lockdown orders

KARACHI: Sindh police on Wednesday arrested more than 219 people from different parts of the province over violation of the COVID-19 lockdown.

According to a spokesman for Sindh police, at least 120 people were arrested for violating lockdown orders from different parts of Karachi.

The spokesperson informed that almost 80 people were arrested from the South zone, 24 people from East zone and 16 from the West zones of the metropolis. A total 48 FIRs were registered against the arrested people.

Meanwhile, 99 people were detained by police from different parts of Sindh, including 07 people from Hyderabad, 01 from Mirpurkhas, 01 from Shaheed Benazirabad, 47 from Sukkur and 43 people were arrested from Larkana. A total 70 cases were registered against the detainees over violating section 144.

The provincial government on Tuesday extended the ongoing lockdown till April 30 to limit the spread of COVID-19. Citizens have been asked to limit their movements from 5: 00 pm to 8: 00 am.

Exceptions have been granted for law-enforcers, medics and paramedics, medical stores adjacent to healthcare facilities, goods transporters, people associated with charity outfits, on-duty journalists and technical staff.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had said that strict lockdown will continue across the province for another two weeks in order to stop the spread of COVID-19 cases.

CM Murad said that the restrictions during the COVID-19 lockdown, which has been extended for the next two weeks, will be tougher than before.

The Chief Minister warned severe action will be taken against all those sectors who will not follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) laid out by the provincial government.
