In an effort to protect citizens from exploitative and unfair fare hikes during Eid ul Adha, the Sindh government has launched a province-wide crackdown on transporters charging excessive ticket prices.
On the instructions of Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, all district administrations have been directed to closely monitor transport operations and take immediate action against any violations.
The senior minister stated that, “On Eid, people travel long distances to celebrate with their loved ones. Unfortunately, some greedy elements take advantage of this occasion by arbitrarily increasing fares. This practice will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”
Sharjeel Memon emphasized that orders have been issued to the Inspector General of Sindh Police, Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Traffic Police, and Regional Transport Authorities to step into the field and provide immediate relief by taking legal action against transporters overcharging passengers.
He warned that any transporter found exploiting the public during Eid will face heavy fines, possible suspension or cancellation of licenses, and revocation of route permits.
The provincial minister also appealed to the public to report any instance of illegal fare collection by buses or coach services. A dedicated WhatsApp number 0300-3495375 has been provided for passengers to lodge complaints for swift action.
