KARACHI: The Sindh government will present the annual provincial budget for the fiscal year 2020-21 today.
The budget session of the Sindh Assembly will begin at 2 pm in Karachi. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah will present the provincial budget with a total outlay of over Rs 1200 billion.
Special arrangements have been made in the Sindh Assembly in the wake of coronavirus situations while a large number of members will attend the meeting online.
Before the budget, a pre-budget meeting of the Sindh cabinet will be held at the Chief Minister’s House in which the Sindh cabinet will approve the budget proposals.
Earlier, CM Murad Ali Shah while chairing a meeting of parliamentary body of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians in the Sindh Assembly explained that before presenting the budget for the next financial year in the provincial assembly, he would chair a cabinet meeting to approve it.
The chief minister apprised the provincial lawmakers regarding budget proposals and said that they would try to complete the ongoing projects in the Annual Development Plan (ADP).
Commenting on the budget, CM Murad Ali Shah said, “Health department will be given priority in the provincial budget for next fiscal year,” adding, “We have to contain the virus which is spreading throughout the province.”
He further said that the novel coronavirus has not only affected the people of Sindh but has badly impacted the budget estimates for next year. “Despite critical conditions, I will try my best to provide relief to the poor people of the province,” he added.
