A comprehensive shutter-down strike paralyzed Balochistan on Tuesday as a protest against the alleged rigging in the recently held general elections.
Several small political parties initiated the strike in response to perceived irregularities during the February 8 elections.
The impact of the shutter-down strike was evident with the closure of all business centers, leading to significantly reduced traffic on the roads compared to normal days. Simultaneously, Chaman experienced a second consecutive day of a complete shutter-down strike, protesting against alleged rigging and result changes in constituency PB-51.
Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party’s protest demonstration and sit-in persisted in front of the District Election Commission office, resulting in the closure of surrounding roads and suspending the train service. The closure of entrances and exits to Chaman city further exacerbated the situation.
Abbasin Khan Achakzai, the nominated candidate from Pashtunkhaw Milli Awami Party, alleged that their victory had been manipulated into defeat through the use of fraudulent tactics. The strike and protests highlight the deep concerns over the fairness and transparency of the electoral process in Balochistan.
