LAHORE: Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed has said that thirty trains will be made operational before Eid-ul-Fitr if Prime Minister allows resuming services.
While addressing a press conference in Lahore, the railway minister said that train operations can resume on a 24-hour notice period conditional to permission being granted by Prime Minister.
“We have prepared around 540 train coaches according to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the government,” he said. “They will be made operational as soon we are granted permission,” he added.
He further said that the railway staff has been trained to deal with the crisis. “We have trained all our staff to follow SOPs and all precautionary measures in order to curb the risk of spreading coronavirus,” he maintained.
He added that priority would be given to those people who had booked tickets earlier but couldn’t travel due to lockdown. Earlier he said that Pakistan would soon overcome the coronavirus pandemic.
Sheikh Rasheed asserted that Pakistan can defeat coronavirus pandemic through national unity, discipline, and awareness. “The situation regarding coronavirus pandemic is controlled in Pakistan,” he added.
