RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League (AML) leader and former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed stated on Friday that he always instructed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief to keep stable relations with the army.
While responding to a question on May 9 incident, the former minister said he has always denounced the attacks against state institutions adding that he was out of the country at that time actions.
In response to a query about his withdrawal from politics after May 9, the former minister said that he went on a ‘chilla’ (a 40-day spiritual retreat).
Rasheed said that he attended the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting on cypher while also claimed that three persons were talking with the army on behalf of the PTI chairman.
However, later PTI chief stopped them from negotiating.
“And those three men have now created their own political parties,” he said.
He continued, nevertheless, by saying that the events of May 9 involved non-political individuals in a significant way.
The former minister expressed his pride in identifying as a ‘spokesperson’ for the armed forces.
