SHC suspends PEMRA’s ban on drama ‘Jalan’

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) has suspended Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA)’s ban on the drama ‘Jalan’.

According to the journalist’s tweet, PEMRA has removed the ban on the show.

“Sindh High Court to the rescue … the next episode of #Jalan will air tomorrow as SHC suspends PEMRA’s ban on the play. This was bound to happen because #PEMRA is supposed to regulate, not ban a drama,” he in a tweet wrote.

Earlier, the PEMRA banned the play because it did not align with the ‘cultural and social values of the country’.

The PEMRA earlier banned the repeat telecast of drama serials ‘Pyar Ke Sadqay’ and ‘Ishqiya’ for being against social and religious values. As per the notification, the action was taken under Section 27 of its ordinance. The notification added that the two drama serials could also not be aired on its respective channels.
