ISLAMABAD: Shaukat Tareen, head of the federal government’s economic team, has termed the news of talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as a failure as baseless.
In this regard, State Bank Governor Raza Baqir has also expressed hope for success in the talks. According to details, Shaukat Tareen said that talks are underway with the IMF and hoped that the talks would be successful. In Pakistan, the impression is being given that the talks have failed, which is baseless.
Referring to the IMF’s demands, Shaukat Tareen said that the banker has always demanded ‘do more’. “We did not meet our deadline. The meeting with the official of the International Monetary Fund was useful,” he added.

Shaukat Tareen said that the meeting with the MD IMF proved to be very useful. “In the past, Pakistan’s exports were not good. The nation should not be disappointed with the talks,” he asserted.
He said that revolutionary measures were being taken in the field of agriculture. Exports cannot increase unless inflation is brought under control, he maintained. On the other hand, SBP Governor Raza Baqir said that the World Bank has kept Pakistan’s growth rate at 3.4percent. The pace of GDP is different from the World Bank forecast, he asserted.
SBP Governor Raza Baqir said that the country’s GDP is growing at a rate of 5 percent which is more than the World Bank figures. According to him, negotiations with the IMF will be successful.
