DHAKA: Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s father has tested positive for coronavirus today (Sunday) and is now in isolation in their Keshopur house.
District Health and Family Planning Officer confirmed the development and said that they had placed the house under lockdown after the COVID-19 report came back positive.
In this regard, Shakib’s cousin said, “He works in a bank. Around 6-7 people were already affected by the virus before him. We got to know that he is affected after the report came out today.”
He further informed that Shakib’s mother had also undergone the test but is yet to receive her result. Shakib, who has been serving his corruption ban since last year, is in the United States staying with his wife and children.
Earlier, former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam Apu, and former opener Nafis Iqbal had also tested positive for coronavirus.
Ever since the pandemic broke out, Shakib has been working with his foundation from the United States to aid the lockdown-affected people in his country.
According to Bangladesh Health Ministry, as per the latest update, more than 2,618 have died of coronavirus and total infection has crossed 200,000 in Bangladesh.
