ISLAMABAD: The district administration of the federal capital has sealed the inner hall of the Shah Faisal Mosque today (Sunday) for violating the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).
According to details, the decision was taken after precautionary measures were not followed during the Friday prayers two days ago. From now on, congregational prayers will not be offered in the inner hall of the mosque.
Taking to Twitter, Islamabad’s Deputy Commission Hamza Shafqat informed that the mosque will remain open for daily prayers and the hall will be opened for Friday gathering after proper arrangements are made.

As of December 6, the total number of active COVID-19 cases in the country rose to 53,126. Throughout the country, 41,645 tests were conducted on December 5, while 58 people succumbed to the disease during the last 24 hours.
Earlier on Thursday, President Arif Alvi met prominent religious scholars to discuss the role of the mosque in spreading awareness about COVID-19. After the meeting, Alvi briefed the media that religious leaders have agreed to implement SOPs decided for the mosques.
