Selena Gomez has become the most followed woman on the Instagram as she hit record 400 million followers mark on the social media platform.
The former Disney star achieved this milestone on March 17, just three months after returning to Instagram. She surpassed Kylie Jenner, who previously held the title with 382 million followers.
The popularity of Gomez on Instagram is nothing new. For years, she has routinely ranked among the most popular celebs on the platform. Her experience with social media, however, has not been smooth.
In a 2021 interview with Vogue, the singer revealed that she deleted the photo-sharing app from her phone in 2019 after it started to affect her mental health. “At one point Instagram became my whole world, and it was really dangerous,” she told InStyle in 2022.

In her latest post, the “Only Murders in the Building” star shared two makeup-free selfies with the caption “Violet chemistry,” a reference to the song of the same name on Miley Cyrus’s eighth studio album, “Endless Summer.” Gomez’s post promotes the idea of self-love and being comfortable in one’s own skin.

She’s the most followed woman on IG, but not the most followed person. The title belongs to soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 562 million followers.
