Police have arrested a private school teacher in Nawan Kot city of Punjab for allegedly sexually abusing students and filming the acts.
Sexual violence has seen a disturbing rise in Punjab in recent months. According to the non-governmental organization Sahil, over 1,630 cases of child abuse were reported across the country.
In the first six months of 2024 alone, there were 862 reported cases of child sexual abuse, 668 cases of abduction, 82 cases of missing children, and 18 cases of child marriage. Moreover, 48 cases involving the production or distribution of pornography following sexual abuse were documented.
Meanwhile, police have registered a rape case against an individual named Zeeshan and his accomplices, who are accused of assaulting multiple students and recording the acts.
The case came to light after one of the victims informed their family, which led to Zeeshan’s arrest. The accused reportedly confessed to filming the abuse, and police have recovered several explicit videos from his mobile phone. Further investigations are underway, and raids are being carried out to apprehend additional suspects involved in the case.
Last month, the principal of a private school in Kot Addu, Punjab, was booked for allegedly attempting to rape a student. According to the FIR, the principal summoned a nine-year-old fourth-grade student to his office, where he allegedly attempted the assault.
