KARACHI: The Supreme Court has reinstated Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi as acting Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University in its brief decision on his petition on Monday.
It may be recalled that while giving a detailed verdict on the petition of Dr. Monis Ahmar and Dr. Ahmad, the Sindh High Court (SHC) had ordered to remove Khalid Iraqi within a month and appoint the senior-most as acting Vice-Chancellor of the varsity. The SHC had also directed the appointment of a permanent VC in two months.
After the SHC decision, the Sindh government appointed Dr. Nasira Khatun, a senior professor of Karachi University as acting and interim vice-chancellor, while a search committee for a vice-chancellor, headed by Dr. Tariq Rafique, started working on the basis of the old advertisement published in this regard.
Interviews of the shortlisted candidates for VC are likely to be held next week, and after finalizing a name the committee will send it to the authority concerned.
