The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued an order for the complete closure of restaurants operating within the premises of the National Park, including Monal.
The court’s ruling mandates the cessation of all restaurant operations within the National Park within a three-month timeframe. Stressing the importance of prioritizing the affected businesses, the court emphasized that if alternative locations are sought outside the park, they should be duly accommodated.
In its judgment, the Supreme Court unequivocally stated that commercial activities have no place within the boundaries of the National Park. As such, the closure of all restaurants, including the prominent Monal, was mandated.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court presided over by the Chief Justice, deliberated on the appeal filed by the Monal Group against the Islamabad High Court’s decision dated January 12, 2022. During the proceedings, the Chief Justice remarked on the necessity for senior officers of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to be proficient in English.
Subsequently, the Supreme Court reiterated its directive for the closure of all restaurants situated within the National Park, setting a three-month deadline for the enforcement of the order. The court emphasized its stance that commercial activities are incompatible with the preservation of the National Park’s natural integrity.
