ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has extended the hearing of bail petitions of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shehbaz for an indefinite period in a corruption case.
A three-judge bench of Supreme Court headed by Justice Mushir Alam deferred the hearing for an indefinite period. Advocate Qalb-e-Hassan informed the bench that the Punjab Assembly opposition leader’s lawyer is sick, therefore, he could not show up before the bench and requested it to adjourn the case.
Earlier, on 20th March, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had challenged bail granted to the PML-N leader in the Supreme Court (SC), stating that the bail plea of Hamza Shehbaz was not possible.
The trial of the reference will be affected due to observations of the high court in Hamza Shehbaz’s bail plea, the plea states. The NAB pleaded with the court to reject the bail awarded to the PML-N leader.
Earlier in February, the Lahore High Court (LHC) had granted bail to Hamza Shehbaz Sharif in Ramzan Sugar Mills case. Hamza along with his father Shehbaz Sharif is accused of making a drain in Chiniot which benefitted in the case.
A case was filed by the NAB against both, alleging the former chief minister Punjab misused his authority and constructed a 10-km sludge carrier in district Chiniot to facilitate the factory, owned by his sons.
