LAHORE: The Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has announced celebration called “Youm-i-Tashakur” that will take place after the Isha prayers on today (Wednesday) in over 75 cities across all four provinces.
His announcement came a day after Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday nullified Election Commission’s (ECP) decision to postpone Punjab elections, declaring the move as unlawful and without any jurisdiction.

The Apex court in its order not only gave time frame to the federal government and the ECP to arrange billions of funds for the polls, but to conduct each and step in a way that meets the May 14 deadline for elections.
The SC verdict was hailed across Pakistan and abroad, with majority of the masses calling it as ‘triumph of Constitution,” and “burial of doctrine of necessity.”
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Khan said “tonight after Isha prayers we will be celebrating Youm-i-Tashakur in over 75 cities across all 4 provinces. SC has stood with Constitution and put an end to Doctrine of Necessity, which is used in absence of Rule of Law. This is also a huge step forward towards Haqeeqi Azadi.”

He went on to say that”I will address our people and warn of the real danger that, despite SC order, ruling mafia will still not hold elections bec they are petrified of losing. We must be prepared to come out on the streets for peaceful protest in support & protection of SC, which is upholding Constitution,” a reference to federal cabinet’s announcement which rejected the SC verdict, saying it non practical.
