JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has unveiled the world’s first mosque constructed with 3D printing technology.
3D printing technology distinguishes itself for its capacity to translate a three-dimensional digital model into a tangible object. This process, known as Additive Manufacturing, systematically builds successive layers to form the final shape, contrasting sharply with traditional molding and sculpting methods that typically waste over 90% of raw materials.
The utilization of 3D printing technology in constructing the world’s first mosque of its kind heralds a new era of innovation in the construction and architectural sectors. This groundbreaking project demonstrates the immense potential of cutting-edge technology in reshaping architectural practices, contributing to the diversification of the national economy and enhancing non-oil local content, aligning with the ambitious objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
Saudi businesswoman Wajnat Abdulwahed spearheaded the innovative construction of a new mosque, dedicated to her late husband’s memory. Leading Forsan Real Estate, she orchestrated the completion of the mosque, spanning 5,600 square meters, in just six months using four cutting-edge printers from Guanli, a globally renowned Chinese company specializing in 3D printing technology.
In her statement, Mrs. Abdulwahed emphasized her desire to introduce modern technology to Saudi Arabia, aiming to position the country among the pioneers in its utilization. The concept materialized into the creation of a mosque dedicated to her late husband’s memory, marking the world’s first mosque constructed with 3D printing technology.
Wajnat emerges as a trailblazer in integrating 3D printing technology into mosque construction in Saudi Arabia, driving forward innovation and progress. She not only successfully produced building prototypes using this groundbreaking technology but also rigorously tested the printer outputs to ensure compliance with Saudi municipal and regulatory standards, achieving a significant milestone in the field.
