ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance launched a program this week to distribute ten tons of premium dates to Pakistan, APP reported.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Gift Program was inaugurated by the ministry at the Saudi Embassy in Pakistan on Saturday, as reported by APP. Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, the Kingdom’s ambassador to Pakistan, was present at the launch event in Islamabad.
Al-Maliki emphasized that this initiative is a part of the Kingdom’s broader program held across multiple countries, including Pakistan, during the sacred month of Ramadan. “This program involves distributing 10 tons of premium dates, totaling 30,000 individual gifts,” stated Malki, as quoted by APP on Saturday. He further emphasized that these gifts symbolize the strong bonds of brotherhood and goodwill between the people of Saudi Arabia, its government, leadership, and the people of Pakistan.
Observing fasting during Ramadan is one of the fundamental pillars of Islam, where Muslims refrain from consuming food and drinks from sunrise till sunset throughout the month. Traditionally, Muslims in various parts of the world, including Pakistan, break their fast by consuming dates.
Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia generously gifted Pakistan 100 tons of dates before the commencement of Ramadan. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share robust trade, defense, and fraternal ties. With over 2.7 million Pakistani expatriates residing in the Kingdom, Saudi Arabia serves as the primary destination for remittances, providing crucial support to the cash-strapped South Asian country.
