RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has successfully evacuated more than 6,000 people from 105 different countries who were stranded in the war-torn Sudan.
According to the Kingdom’s Foreign Ministry, 208 individuals arrived in Jeddah on Thursday aboard HMS Taif, marking the latest successful evacuation mission. Among those evacuated were citizens from a diverse range of countries, including Pakistan, Norway, Australia, Canada, Turkey, Eritrea, Egypt, Malta, Germany, Switzerland, France, Syria, the Netherlands, and the US.
Officials said the initiative was taken by the Saudi government in light of the deteriorating security situation in Sudan, which has led to many foreign nationals being stranded in the country. The Kingdom has been working closely with international organizations to ensure the safe and swift evacuation of all foreign nationals from Sudan.
The Saudi Arabian government has been committed to providing basic necessities to citizens of friendly countries, to ensure their safe departure from the region. The recent evacuation brings the total number of people evacuated from Sudan to 6,073, with 246 Saudi citizens and 5,827 others belonging to 104 nationalities.
