Pakistan’s team management has made the significant decision to drop Azam Khan from the playing XI against the archrival India in T20 World Cup 2024.
The match is set to take place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island, New York, with a start time of 7:30 PM PST.
Pakistan’s campaign in the ICC mega event got off to a rocky start with a shocking loss in a super over. This defeat prompted the team management to consider changes to their lineup for future games.
According to sources, Azam Khan did not participate in the latest batting practice session. The head coach expressed dissatisfaction with Azam’s current form, especially after his poor performance in the recent match against the USA. This has led to the decision to replace him for the upcoming clash with India.
Saim Ayub is expected to replace Azam Khan. If Ayub is selected, he is likely to open the batting alongside skipper Babar Azam, who could move to the number three position.
Pakistan will be hoping that these changes can rejuvenate their campaign and help them bounce back from their early setback.
Meanwhile, Gary Kirsten, the head coach of the Pakistani cricket team, confirmed Imad Wasim’s availability for the upcoming match against India at New York Stadium.
Expected lineup:
Saim Ayub, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Babar Azam (c), Fakhar Zaman, Usman Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Naseem Shah, Abrar Ahmed
