GILGIT: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) member Sadia Danish has been elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
No member of the Assembly submitted nomination papers against her. She was the joint candidate of the PDM alliance and received support from the PTI forward bloc led by newly-elected chief minister Gulbar Khan.
While presiding over the 22nd session, Speaker Nazir Ahmed Advocate announced the election of the Sadia Danish to the post of Deputy Speaker uncontested.
In the parliamentary history of Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Sadia Danish is the first woman member who was elected to the post of Deputy Speaker.
Sadia Danish was a member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly from 2009 to 2014 and was also part of the GB cabinet. She also serves as Information Secretary of PPP in Gilgit-Baltistan region.
PPP has decided to join the newly installed government of Gilgit-Baltistan. The party will be given cabinet positions in the next phase after its crucial role in forming the coalition government in the region.
