ISLAMABAD: A rift has emerged between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders over resigning en masse from the National Assembly.
A meeting of the PTI’s central core executive committee (CEC) was held in Bani Gala chaired by PTI chairman Imran Khan where situation was discussed. The CEC recommended that the PTI should resign from the assemblies starting with the National Assembly.
Former Federal Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmed had announced that all PTI members will resign from National Assembly. He said that they cannot sit in National Assembly with thieves and looters of the national exchequer and will resign from the House.
Meanwhile, Former Information Minister, while talking to mediapersons, confirmed the development and said that the party will resign from lower house of parliament in first phase. He said the party has raised objections over the Shehbaz Sharif’s nomination as prime minister and will resign if they are not addressed.
He further said that PTI nominated Shah Mahmood Qureshi for Prime Minister’s election in order to challenge nomination papers of Shehbaz Sharif, who is supposed to be indicted in money laundering case. The former minister also said that PTI core committee paid glorying tribute to Imran Khan for fighting the joint opposition till the last ball.
However, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said they party has not decided to resign from the National Assembly. A meeting of the PTI’s parliamentary committee which was expected to be held today has been postponed.
According to reports, PTI leaders are not in favour in submitting mass resignations from the National Assembly, saying that it will be a colossal loss to the party. They claimed that Fawad Chaudhry and Sheikh Rashid were bent on discrediting the PTI from the political scenario.
