Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Police Pir Muhammad Shah has announced that rickshaws will be banned on 7 more major roads of Karachi in connection with the ongoing operation against traffic violations and encroachments.
Talking to the media, the DIG Traffic said that strict action will be taken against all types of encroachments on the main highways of the city.
He said that a major anti-encroachment operation is being launched, and a modern traffic management system will also be introduced to ensure implementation of traffic rules.
According to Pir Muhammad Shah, illegal rickshaws have been removed from the sides of Millennium Mall and Nazim Chowrangi, while encroachments have been removed from Empress Market. In the next phase, the movement of rickshaws will be banned on seven more major roads of the city.
He also said that the Traffic Engineering Bureau, which was dormant for a long time, has now been reactivated and separated from the Karachi Development Authority (KDA).
The DIG Traffic said that a new automated e-challan system will also be introduced next month, which will enable effective action on violations.
