RAWALPINDI: The employees and officials of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) are allegedly involved in illegal water connections in the city.
According to sources, corruption in the cantonment board reached its peak in Rawalpindi as the officials and employees of the water board allegedly take Rs.1000 as a bribe to authorize illegal water connections.
Sources disclosed “More than 200 illegal water connections are made daily in the Rawalpindi Cantt area, adding that the Additional CEO of the Cantonment Board, Faisal Wattoo, was also part of the conspiracy”.
“Faisal Wattoo is receiving Rs. 1000 per connection in cash from the citizens for approval of the form for water connection”, sources added.
The Water Management Department has made several illegal connections in the mainline in different areas, due to which people of Rawalpindi are facing a severe water crisis.
On the other hand, hundreds and thousands of applications for the installation of water connections are pending due to stringent conditions created by the RCB officials.
Citizens have complained that the cantonment boards of Rawalpindi and Chaklala failed to provide water to a large population of the area due to illegal practices.
They said some residents had stored water in their underground and rooftop water tanks but it had finished later or sooner and they purchased water from private tankers at the rate of Rs2,000 to Rs3,000 per tanker.
They said complaints were being lodged with RCB but they were not listening to them. The people have demanded action against the Additional CEO of the Cantonment Board Faisal Wattoo and address the issue immediately.
