Starting May 28, the Rawalpindi district administration will establish 12 designated livestock markets for the sale of sacrificial animals in preparation for Eid-ul-Adha.
A strict ban has been imposed on unauthorized markets and the sale of animals on streets and roads to ensure public safety and orderly trade.
These official markets will operate under the supervision of the District Council, Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB), and Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB). The contracting process for market management is currently in progress.
To facilitate traders and buyers, each market will be equipped with essential amenities, including water supply for animals, electricity, and temporary shade structures. Water will be provided through tankers, and temporary electric meters will be installed. Stallholders will be responsible for arranging tents and waiting areas for their customers.
Entry fees have been set at Rs 2,000 for small animals and Rs 3,000 for large animals. Market contractors will also be responsible for ensuring daily sanitation and cleanliness throughout the operational period.
Markets under the District Council will be located at Bhatta Chowk, Rawat, Adiala Road, Chakri Road, Gujar Khan, Kallar Syedan, Kahuta, Kotli Sattian, Murree, and Taxila. The CCB will manage two markets at traditional sites near Mareer Chowk beside Sangit Cinema and behind the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench.
