A trial court in Rawalpindi has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, in connection with the £190 million reference case.
The order was issued today by Judge Nasir Javed Rana at Adiala Jail after Bushra Bibi failed to appear for the hearing.
The warrant was issued due to her repeated absence from court proceedings. During the hearing, Imran Khan, currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail, was presented before the court.
Meanwhile, Bushra Bibi’s lawyer sought exemption from her appearance on medical grounds, citing a report from Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital. However, a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) official raised objections, noting discrepancies, including that the report was attested in Islamabad.
Moreover, neither Imran Khan nor Bushra Bibi submitted their statements under Section 342 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. The couple had previously been given a 79-point questionnaire for their final statements during the second-to-last hearing.
It should be noted that Bushra Bibi was released on bail last month after spending approximately nine months in custody in the Toshakhana case.
