The Taliban’s recent decree banning women’s medical training in Afghanistan has sparked widespread outrage. On December 2, Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada announced the ban, drawing criticism both locally and internationally.
According to Indian media (News 18), Afghan cricket star Rashid Khan has openly opposed the decision, sharing a heartfelt message on social media. In his post on X, he expressed deep disappointment over the closure of medical institutions for women in Afghanistan.
Highlighting Islamic teachings, he emphasized that education holds a central place in Islam, advocating for the pursuit of knowledge by both men and women. Rashid added that the Quran underscores the importance of education and recognizes the equal spiritual value of both genders.
The cricketer further expressed his sorrow and frustration over the decision’s impact on Afghan women. He noted that the closure of educational and medical institutions not only jeopardizes the future of Afghan women but also disrupts the broader social fabric of the nation.
Rashid urged the Taliban government to reconsider the decision, stressing that providing education is both a social and moral responsibility, especially as Afghanistan faces a critical juncture.
