The holy month of Ramadan is anticipated to commence in Pakistan on March 2, 2025, as the crescent moon is expected to be observed on the evening of March 1, according to predictions from the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).
A representative from SUPARCO indicated that the new moon will emerge on February 28, 2025, at 5:45 PM Pakistan Standard Time.
However, at sunset on February 28, the moon will be merely 12 hours old and positioned at an altitude of only 5 degrees. Due to its low elevation and an angular separation of 7 degrees from the sun, the crescent will not be discernible to the naked eye.
The spokesperson further noted that Saudi Arabia might be able to see the crescent on February 28, which could result in Ramadan beginning on March 1 there. In Pakistan, the first day of fasting is projected to be March 2.
Additionally, SUPARCO predicts that the Shawwal moon will be visible on March 30, suggesting that Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to occur on March 31.
Ultimately, the final determination regarding moon sighting will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, as clarified by SUPARCO.
