KARACHI: The country is poised to welcome a fresh rainy and windy spell during the Eidul Fitr holidays, as forecasted by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday. Karachi, along with extensive areas of the country, is expected to witness rain accompanied by gusts of wind and thunderstorms throughout the Eid ul Fitr festivities.
According to a statement from the Met Office, a westerly wave is anticipated to enter the upper regions of the country on April 10, followed by another robust westerly wave on the 12th of this month. This weather system is likely to envelop most parts of the country by April 13 and persist until the 15th.
The PMD’s latest weather advisory predicts isolated rain combined with wind and thunderstorms in Karachi and Hyderabad during the Eid holidays due to the influence of this weather system.
The rainy and windy weather is expected to prevail over various regions from April 10 to April 15, intermittently. These areas include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, and Malakand. The wet and stormy conditions may extend to Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, and Kurram from April 12 to April 15.
Furthermore, Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur are also likely to receive intermittent spells of precipitation, with snow over mountains from April 10 to April 15.
Similarly, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, and Chakwal are expected to experience rainy weather on April 10 and then intermittently from the evening of April 12 to April 15.
However, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar may experience the fresh weather conditions over the mentioned period.
Additionally, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Sibbi, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Kalat, Lasbella, Khuzdar, Chagi, Panjgur, Gawadar, and Kech may witness intermittent rainy spells with isolated downpours from April 12 to April 14.
From April 13 to April 14, rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar, Shahdad Kot, Jamshoro, and Sanghar. Isolated rains with wind and thunderstorms may occur in Karachi and Hyderabad over this period.
The Met Office has issued alerts regarding the possibility of flash floods in local nullahs and streams of Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Manshera, tributaries of the Kabul River, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir from April 13 to April 15.
