KARACHI: Ten members of suspended acting Superintendents of Railways Police (SRP) Kausar Abbas’s team were removed over corruption charges on Thursday, however, no action has been taken so far against SHOs City and Cantt, who are the key players in the alleged corruption scandal.
Abbas was removed from his office a few days back when it was disclosed that bribes have been received for postings and transfers of 53 officers and employees of Railway Police Karachi. Now his henchmen have been removed in the same scandal.
There is no such precedent in the history of Railway Police that employees have been transferred and posted in such a huge number while receiving a payoff from them. While there is also no previous example of the diligence and dedication shown by the Inspector General (IG) Railway Police by taking instant action against the corrupt elements soon after the scandal came to the fore.
In the past, senior officers used to ignore such cases, which have resulted in rampant corruption in the Railway Police, but now after this operation, the corrupt elements are in deep trouble and their future looks bleak.
Moreover, suspended SRP has left for Lahore by Khyber Mail, however, prior to his departure, Habib Zafar, Shaan, Abid, Abdul Ghafoor, Muhammad Amir, Imran, Muhammad Ahmed, and Zahid, the main elements of his group and alleged corruption, were sent to the police line.
According to sources, the two officers appointed to the post of OASI and Reader are also known as the blue-eyed boys of Abbas.
It has been learned that the new acting SRP is not well aware of the affairs of Karachi Railways Police, while Abbas’ group has appointed its two members to important posts.
Nayyar Haider and Ehtesham Rasool are also known for their close ties with the group while taking of no action against SHOs City and Cent also gives the impression that the group is very strong.
