KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Punjab president Qamar Zaman Kaira has tested positive for the coronavirus.
Qamar Zaman Kaira has confirmed that he is currently isolating himself. He had attended Gilgit-Baltistan to campaign for the upcoming elections in the region. He was campaigning alongside PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
When Kaira returned to Islamabad and took the coronavirus test, it turned to be positive. He reportedly has mild symptoms such as fever and sore throat.
Prominent political leaders who had contracted the virus so far include Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi, Aamir Liaqat Hussain, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail, Dr. Zafar Mirza, former SAPM on health, PPP leader Saeed Ghani, and Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid.

Pakistan has so far reported 344,839 cases of coronavirus, and the total death toll has reached 6,97. Experts warn that the country is currently experiencing a second wave of the virus as cases are rising steadily.
In Pakistan, 318,881 patients of coronavirus have recovered and 18,981 are undergoing treatment. The number of coronavirus patients in Sindh is 150,169 and in Punjab, it is 16,922. 40,657 cases have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 21,861 in Islamabad, 16,106 in Balochistan, 4,758 in Azad Kashmir, and 4,366 in Gilgit.
