The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert predicting dust storms and rainfall across most districts of Punjab from May 27 to May 31.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Gujranwala are expected to experience rainfall accompanied by strong winds.
There is also a likelihood of rain in Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali, while South Punjab, including Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar, is expected to receive rain between May 27 and 30.
In line with directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab, alerts have been issued to the district administrations.
Director General PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia stated that this rain system will help reduce the intensity of heat and the ongoing heatwave. He added that alerts have been sent to the departments of School Education, Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works, Local Government, and Livestock.
Citizens have been advised to stay in safe places during thunderstorms and lightning and avoid being outdoors under open skies during stormy weather. In case of emergency, the public can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory for the period from May 27 to June 1, predicting strong winds, thunderstorms, and possible hailstorms in various parts of the country.
According to the advisory, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and strong winds is likely in Islamabad and Rawalpindi during this time.
The authorities have advised the public to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated with official weather alerts.
