The Punjab Home Department has unveiled a series of reforms to streamline the verification process for weapon licenses by integrating QR codes into the system.
Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal has instructed the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to generate QR codes for all weapon licenses, enabling law enforcement to verify their authenticity with ease.
In a recent meeting chaired by Mengal, it was decided that QR codes would be incorporated into weapon licenses within a week. Moreover, NADRA has been tasked with linking each license to the holder’s identification card for improved tracking.
To ensure uniform implementation, Punjab’s commissioners and deputy commissioners have been directed to include QR codes in all weapon license-related directives
This initiative builds on the department’s earlier efforts to digitize arms license management. Introduced in January, the digital system allows citizens to apply for, renew, and modify licenses online.
The transition to an online platform enhances transparency, efficiency, and convenience, eliminating the need for physical visits to the Home Department. License holders can now request changes, such as modifications to the category of their license or adjustments to the permitted number of bullets, from the comfort of their homes.
