The Punjab government has announced plans to offer free transportation on the Orange Line, Metro, and Speedo buses for senior citizens, students, and individuals with disabilities.
This initiative aims to improve accessibility to public transit in Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi, making it easier for these groups to travel via the Metro Bus and Orange Line Train systems.
A detailed proposal of the program has been submitted to the Cabinet Committee on Finance, with Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb expected to preside over a meeting today where final approval is anticipated.
In an earlier announcement, the Punjab government introduced a scheme to provide motorcycles to orphaned students.
Punjab’s Transport Secretary, Qazi, emphasized the dual purpose of this initiative, stating that it not only assists students in need but also promotes environmental sustainability by using electric motorcycles, which help reduce smog. “These electric motorcycles will play a significant role in addressing our environmental challenges,” he remarked. The program also allows students to choose their preferred motorcycle model, offering flexibility to meet their individual needs.
