The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) announced on Sunday that it had seized 420 kilograms of meat from dead animals near Darya Khan, Punjab, and safely disposed of it at a designated dumping site.
The operation, conducted with police assistance, followed a tip-off about the illegal sale of unfit meat. A veterinary doctor confirmed that the animal had died before slaughter.
A case has been registered against those involved, according to PFA sources cited by the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP). This incident follows a similar case last month, in which Patrolling Police intercepted a van at Riazabad Chowk carrying 20 maunds of dead animal meat. The driver was arrested, and the meat, destined for a hotel in Multan, was destroyed.
In November 2022, authorities conducted a significant raid based on a tip-off, seizing two tons of dead animal meat stored at a cold facility intended for distribution to hotels, restaurants, and markets.
Selling meat from dead animals remains a prevalent issue in parts of Pakistan, prompting frequent police raids to apprehend offenders. Islamic rulings strictly prohibit the consumption of dead meat—meat from animals that were not slaughtered intentionally or hunted properly.
