PUNJAB: In the wake of increasing number of the COVID-19 cases in Punjab, the provincial authorities on Wednesday extended ban on pillion riding till 14 April.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab home department, the province-wide ban on pillion riding has been extended till 14 April to avert the spread of the deadly epidemic.
The notification stated journalists, law enforcers, women, senior citizens and children would be exempted from the ban.
On March 26, as part of precautionary steps against the novel COVID-19, the provincial government had imposed a province-wide ban on pillion riding till 7 April.
According to a notification issued by the provincial home secretary, “The provincial government had imposed the ban on pillion riding under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code and it will come into effect immediately”.
The total number of coronavirus cases in Punjab has crossed 2107 after 78 new cases were reported in the province, raising the provincial death tally to 16.
The confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan reached 4,204, according to the National Command and Control Centre’s latest statistics released on Wednesday.
As many as 208 new cases of the coronavirus emerged across the country during last 24 hours. So far 467 patients have recovered from the disease, whereas the death toll has surged to 60.
