LAHORE: The meeting of the Punjab Assembly will be held today to approve the provincial budget for the remaining three months of the current fiscal year 2023-24.
The Assembly has already approved the budget for the next three months, two weeks ago. In today’s meeting, the Provincial House will approve the budget for the next three months (April, May, and June). This is being done because there was no assembly in June 2023 to pass the annual budget for the financial year 2023-24.
The caretaker Punjab government, whose tenure was extended beyond the constitutional limit, had a mandate to approve the budget for only four months. The Punjab government will present the budget for three months in the assembly today, after which the new budget for the next financial year will be presented in June.
It should be noted that due to the taxes levied in every upcoming budget in Pakistan and the ongoing negotiations with the IMF, the citizens say that we have no hope of relief from the budget.
Citizens believed that the government would squeeze the blood of the people in the name of taxes even in the budget of three months and if there is any space left, it will be taken out in the coming budget in June.
