On Monday, Punjab’s Secretary for Schools, Khalid Nazir Wattoo, announced that winter vacations in the province would commence on December 20 and run until January 10, 2025. The break will span a total of 20 days.
According to a report by Pak Observer, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi postponed the intermediate practical exams set for Monday. This decision was made due to the federal government’s public holiday in the twin cities.
Tanveer Asghar Awan, the Controller of Examinations, confirmed that new dates for the postponed exams would be shared soon. He clarified that practical exams in other districts, excluding Rawalpindi, would proceed as originally planned.
Punjab experiences cold winters, especially in rural areas, where temperatures can drop significantly. The winter break provides students a chance to stay safe and warm indoors, away from the discomfort and health risks posed by the chilly weather.
The cold weather increases the likelihood of seasonal illnesses such as flu and respiratory infections. A break from school allows students to rest and recover, reducing the spread of illnesses among children.
Winter vacations provide families with the opportunity to spend time together during the festive season, including Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. It also allows for cultural and religious events like the Gurpurabs to be observed.
